Case Study

Carbonlite Challenge

The details

Harniss have been successfully working in partnership with Atelier Finance supporting and assisting on delivering their mission statement “we believe in better property finance, by design”.   The ethos behind their incentivised development works is largely steeped with their commitment to ESG and responsible lending.  Not wishing to fall into the ‘greenwashing’ approach often found within the industry, Atelier wanted to create and build a carbon reduction aspiration with their developers.  Our work with Atelier has seen the development of a fully set of metrics and assessment calculator to evaluate a development proposal and allow Atelier the means to offer set rebates if a developer hit certain enablement targets.

This system is unique to Atelier.  Their ‘Carbonlite Challenge’ has been running a pilot phase for new construction schemes for over twelve months.  The beauty of the Carbonlite Challenge is its focus not only on operational carbon, but wider measures reflected in EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates),  Carbonlite encompasses Embodied Carbon, water conservation and wider sustainability issues to align with future changes with Net Zero and Future Homes Standards legislation.

We have helped create and assess applications and further adapt this to also incorporate redevelopment schemes as well.  This is an exciting time for the industry, and we are extremely proud to have been able to apply the skills of our Harniss Consultancy team to the development of this.
